The DSA certified PCV theory test is a compulsory obligation before taking the practical test and getting your license. This test lets a DSA examiner assesses the knowledge and skills of a driver to allow them to undergo training for driving a PCV.

A driver can take these tests in whatever he wants to. But the maximum time period allowed between the first and the second is 2 years, to attain the certificate.
• At the start, a driver is provided with instruction on how to attempt the test. A practice session is also provided to get a look over of the questions laid out, and digital format used.
• After the start of the test session, questions with multiple answer options will appear on the screen, the driver has to choose the correct one out of these with mouse or touch screen. Some questions may carry more than one correct answer.
• The total number of questions asked is 100, and the time period allowed is 115 minutes.
• Each question carries 1 mark.
• The passing eligibility for Multiple Choice test section is 85 marks out of 100.
• The pass mark for the multiple choice part of the theory test is 85 out of 100.
• This test includes video clip presentation of about 19 videos featuring every day road scenes.
• The clips featured have at least one hazard involved, while in one of the clips the developing hazard value is 2.
• The driver has to respond in a quick time to predict the developing hazard. The quicker the response, more are the marks allotted, with maximum 5 marks for each clip.
• The pass mark for the Hazard Perception part of the theory test is 67 out of 100.

Drivers who do not have C1 license, have to undergo and pass their Driver CPC case study test compulsorily to gain their driver qualification card.
The theory test certificate, after successful completion of the test, is valid for two years, during which a driver has to undergo the practical test, else his certificate stands void.
The theory test marks are required for applying to practical test afterwards.
In case of failure, one must retake the test after a gap of 3 working days. It is recommended by DSA that drivers should book their tests in advance (at a length of 2-3 weeks) as per the busy test booking schedule.
