C license attainment certifies a driver to drive LGV/HGV up to 32 tonnes. This category is one step further to the C1 license, but any new driver opting for C license does not need to have C1 license on compulsory basis, as C category equips a driver with certification to drive C1 authorized as well as C authorized vehicles.
But for C1 license holder drivers, if they want to progress to heavier vehicles (7.5 tonnes to 32 tonnes), they need to obtain C license.
There are two categories:
• New drivers over age of 18 years, having B category license after passing the UK car test or who have exchanged a foreign license to a UK license.
• Or the older drivers who holds C1 license.
For availing the driver training facility for attainment of C license, one must apply for the exact provisional entitlement along with a medical report.
The C license attainment makes a driver qualified to drive LGV vehicles entailing:
• Up to 32 tonnes in weight

• Lorry Loader (Hlab): 26 tonnes
• 2 Axle Box Body Truck: 18 tonnes
• 3 Axle Box Body Truck: 26 tonnes

Driving Assessment session
Prior to start of the training course, the drivers are invited to the training location, where the instructors analyze driver’s theoretical and practical knowledge of LGV and HGV and program a specialized and personalized course structure.
The course duration is of maximum 20 hours.
The fee for the C license training is 50 pounds per hour.

After the completion of the training course, one must pass the practical test for C license under DSA and also need to obtain Driver CPC.
After the successful completion of the course and attainment of C license and CPC, a driver is professionally qualified to work as a driver on various vehicles up to 32 tonnes. Additionally, at regular period of 5 years after attainment of C license, one must renew their C license as per the government norms.
After passing C license training, one can opt for C+E training straightaway, as it is considered in equal criterion and trains a driver to drive heavier trailers, such as Articulated 44 tonnes vehicle.
