    LGV/HGV C1 License

    LGV and HGV driving involves mid level large and heavy good vehicle in different categories from up to 3.5 tonnes to 32 tonnes and above, including large trailers.
    The first category of license in LGV and HGV is C1 license requirement.

    Eligibility:

    Drivers over age of 18 who have passed the UK car test or have exchanged a foreign license to a UK license; which grants them a B category license for driving cars and vans up to 3.5 tonnes, are eligible for C1 license.
    For driving larger vehicles a driver must possess a C1 license. For availing the driver training facility for attainment of C1 license, one must apply for the exact provisional entitlement along with a medical report.

    License Application:

    The C1 license attainment makes a driver qualified to drive LGV vehicles entailing:
    • 3.5 ft to 7.5 ft high
    • 3500 kg to 7.5 tonnes in weight

    Vehicles for which C1 license is provided:

    • Goods carrying vehicles that fall in the above category
    • Ambulances
    • Recreational and luxury vehicles, those are superior in size and weight category to cars
    • Horsebox trailers in the above stated size and weight category

    Authorization:

    BusTraining’s C1 license training is authorized under DSA (Driving Standards Agency) and DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency); and is regulated by European Union.

    Procedure to procure C1 license:

    • Getting provisional entitlement
    • Passing DSA theory test
    • Completion of practical training
    • Passing DSA practical examination
    • Completing the Initial Driver CPC

    C1 Driving training specifications:

    • Expert trainers who are themselves professional drivers of heavy goods vehicles
    • Training entails driving teaching in economical and fuel efficient manner, a required norm for DSA
    • Proficient use of hydraulic brakes, gears and controls; and maneuvering of vehicle

    Driving Assessment session

    Prior to start of the training course, the drivers are invited to the training location, where the instructors analyze driver’s theoretical and practical knowledge of LGV and HGV and program a specialized and personalized course structure.

    Course duration:

    The course duration is of maximum 20 hours.

    Fees:

    The fees for the C1 license training is 50 pounds per hour.

    After the completion of the training course, one must pass the practical test for C1 license under DSA and also need to obtain Driver CPC.

Additionally, at regular period of 5 years after attainment of C1 license, one must renew their C1 license as per the government norms.
