Automatic vs Manual D license vehicles:

The D license category entails driving two different types of coaches: Automatic and Manual. The Automatic bus training entitles you to drive only a few selected coaches fitted with automatic gear boxes, whereas Manual coach training entitles a driver with license for unrestricted range of all types of buses and coach (including Automatic), irrespective of their size and capacity.
The DSA also conducts practical test for both these categories in a separate mode (theory tests are same) and provides specific license for the type of category: Automatic or Manual.
For drivers holding a lorry driving license, passing the Automatic coach test is enough to grant them qualification to drive manual coaches as well.
